Since ancient times, people have observed the Summer Solstice, when the wheel of the year pivots and we enjoy the change of seasons. Each day since the Winter Solstice on December 21, the days have grown longer, gradually lengthening, increasing light and heat.On June 21, the sun reaches its peak, warming the Northern Hemisphere with its strong rays. After today, the hours of daylight will diminish slowly until December 21, the time of the Winter Solstice, when the Wheel of the Year pivots again.
Each year at this time, we come together and mark the cycles of life on earth to remember our vital connection to all living things and to the web of life. We gather on this longest day to honor the sun at the peak of its power. Together we’ll create a Sun Mandala, using flower petals and colored sand. Like seeds, we’ll bury our intentions deep in Mother Earth and nourish them throughout the growing season to enjoy the harvest of our goals come fall. We bask in the life-giving energy of the sun and the warm glow of friendship as we allow ourselves to be warmed and rejuvenated.Celebrate a fresh start for summer and create a new vision for your life.
